Reserve Duty

Lynne with Maj. Richard Davis, Chief of Reserve Division, FCSD

I'm still a deputy in the Reserve Division of the Fulton County (Atlanta) Georgia Sheriff's Department.

These picture were taken while I was working the courthouse during the Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin trial.

Reserve deputies, who donate their time, undergo the same training and perform the same duties as other deputies.

In the past week my comrades, under the leadership of Maj. Richard Davis, have worked 1800 trial-related hours, in 230 shifts... everything from courthouse security, to jail duty, to serving warrants. They are an amazing group entirely made up of volunteers.

All of the equipment used by the reserve deputies has been provided by donations of both private individuals and corporations. The county in no way sponsors our equipment needs. Through donations by individuals and corporations we are able to acquire the needed supplies and equipment for our organization.

If you would like more information on the Reserve deputy program, wish to help sponsor with a tax deductible contribution, or to volunteer click here.

"Now that I have more time, I enjoy speaking to groups of people who are there to have fun. The topic generally runs to "Coloring Outside the Lines" and breaking a few tiny rules, a concept adults get away from way too early in life. This time I was in Boston as a surprise at the lavish 40th birthday celebration of New England Toy King, Steve Kouroubacalis, compliments of his fun-loving wife, Janet. It was an exciting moment when the Kouroubacalis Charitable Foundation so unselfishly donated $10,000 to my charity of choice, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind."
